Packing for a Mountain Day Hike in the UK | Focused on leading Adult Groups
I’m assuming ‘hand railing’ is similar to keeping any object on a specific side for example say you know a mountain, large hill or pine forest is north and you generally want to head west you would keep the mountain, forest etc on your right side. Enjoying the vids just subbed
Very good points you described me perfectly, although I am starting to use map and compass a lot more. As a side note I’m a London Black Taxi Driver so studied a map of London and suburbs for nearly 4 years to pass The Knowledge, totally different to hiking but I do feel I have a very good natural sense of direction.
A damn good stank , you sure had some good weather
Ez bro, watched while soaking in epsom salts while sipping san pellegrino like a classy mamma jamma. Really enjoyed it and can see why you allways speak so highly of Jack, top bloke and a solid mile slayer.. that round sounds flipping insane and hats off to jack for full boar smashing it. feeling very inspired and lookforward to your next episode 🙏
Next episode is with another mile slyer……. You?
@@Benjaminyates1984 id be well up for it 🙏
Great watch - epic chatting with you man
All that effort and achievement deserves to be celebrated 🙏🏻 I am glad you’re happy with the finished product.
Hi Ben, I'm a new comer to you channel and love your adventures - I'm looking forward to seeing more! I've decided that I'm going to follow the Bob Graham Round after watching your videos. One quick silly question... The parking a Honister Pass, was it at the national trust car park or is there free parking there?
The beauty comes after the summit in the valley where there is colour and life. Love it bro! Keep it up!
Thanks Rick.
Looking forward too what's coming! Welcome back bro ☺️
Thank you 🙏🏻 We have some awesome adventures and chats planned 😁
Nice go see ya back Ben, loving the idea of the new direction, Your mindset definitely helped me to get my ML, Looking forward to it👍 All the best Bruce
Hi Bruce. Nice one, thank you for the feed back. This video wasn’t supposed to have been published yet 😂 oh well 🤷♂️ We’re off.
Me and felicity had the same experience at dulyn bothy, when I went on my own own it was great and secluded. When I took felicity back it was like a crack den when we turned up 😂

great points...on the first issue of boot v trail shoe, alot of you tubers seem to be in one camp or the other , rather than seeing them as diff tools for different jobs. Im predominatly dartmoor, so my choice is is it warm? im i mostly on a trail, do i want wet feet all day, am i scrambling over granite clitter fields and want to protect my feet from phyisical damage? these choices determine the footwear i will use. Same with the "waterproof" jackets , i have a ME saltoro shell and 2 paramo jackets, again, diff tool doing diff jobs, TBH i do prefer Paramo , its way more breathable, but its heavier and can be a lot warmer, its windproofing is actually more useful as a weather barrier imo, something jackets barely talk about in their function. Shells i find more useful as something to carry to put on when the weather gets bad, something to carry on multiday trips, light enough to carry, chuck it on when it rains, take off agian, Paramo is more, leave it on all day type of thing..i could waffle bout this all day, lol but yer..diff tool doing diff jobs
Video cuts short dude
Is that impala on trail is it I've not seen him in a while as he got a new channel
Really good logical points 👍😊
way i explain it to people asking about waterproofs. Does the water/moisture from the outside outweigh the moisture coming from inside? Yes: put a waterproof on. No: don't bother.
Far too many people ask where they are. A good day can turn bad very quickly
super job
Does the needle illuminate in the dark and are they all made in China now

What water filter system do you use to replenish your water.
I briefly answer your question in this video. I’ll do a full review on the filter soon ruclips.net/video/VI6KJLHopxk/видео.html
What have you been smoking fellow?
Well done mate. Keep up the good work bro. Love ya
Thanks bro 🙏🏻 love ya too. Looking forward to seeing what your creative flow brings next 🙏🏻❤️
Thanks, really helpful
Happy to help 🙏🏻
Inov8 roclite 275/325 (boots - goretex) are great and now have graphine but are narrower (size 3 or c) than the 225s (size 4 or d) which are great on all surfaces but won't last on tarmac probably. The lugs are smaller on the roclite (4mm/8mm). If you have wide feet or are used to wide (4 or 5 or d/e/e2) toe box shoes (Inov8 260/270, Altra, topo, barefoot even hoka) swapping to a narrow box can cause injury and/or discomfort. Rule - if they are tight they're not right. you can find the width (mm) of different sizes (most are 3) on line and measure across your foot where it creases with weight on it to get the correct size (with socks) oh and Ben mate.....With Gorilla glue/shoe goo even super glue you can look after yer shoe(s) better for the earth and gripping on the turf - nice review
Boom! That’s an awesome contribution to the vid 💪 This must be pinned as top comment. Thank you 🙏🏻 I have recorded the Rocklite review 😁 just in the process of editing so it should be out soon.
All my compasses are Suunto’s I might reverse azimuth to one of these just because that video was sick. 👍🏻🏴🥾 🏔
Ha cheers dude 😁👍🏻 I need to make more of these vids. It’s fun to do but takes aaaaaages 😂
@@Benjaminyates1984 they’re all great content. Good luck 👍🏻🏴🏔🥾🥃
Really great vid Ben
Thank you Emily ❤️
Ooo really useful thanks Ben, I need to watch it again before it sets in but I'm definitely feeling more confident about understanding and reading synoptic charts :)
😁 awesome. Glad it helped and hope you have an awesome assessment 🙏🏻💪
Nice vid bro! fully agree theres no replacement for knowing how to nav with a map and compass, but also how to read the land its self. i used to be s**t hot at map reading but been using apps and my watch for the past two years which is easy but make you lose that confidence of map reading. think i might have to book you for a refresh. happy trails dude
Let’s get our and get those skills exercised 💪
Thank you for sharing and wishing you a wonderful day. Take care and see you again soon
Thanks you too
A mountain leader is a must to any newcomer (myself) as far as I'm concerned. Granted, technology and apps have their place and I'm sure I'll use them at some stage, but I wouldn't dream of heading into the mountains without the basic navigation and safety skills, among the other experience that a mountain leader can bring
I am going to upload a video soon covering how to use the app to assist in learning ‘basic map reading’. You are right there is nothing better than learning from an experienced person but I also figured I should find a way to support people to use the app more effectively too. I hope the new video helps 🙏🏻 it’ll be up on Sunday 😁
Great video 👍
Thank you 😁
Well Ben it would be nice for yourself if you finished the pennine way if you decided to do it again would you start from the beginning ? You look very dejected in some of your videos, the mental preparation is just as important as the physical preparation if not more so nice to see people like yourself out there keeps me on my toes thanks for posting bren new subscriber
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻❤️ I was going through a hell of a lot personally during that time. I don’t really speak about my personal life on the channel but it is nice that you recognised my pain through the video. I have done a great deal this summer, none of which has made the channel but my mind is strong and my body is in tow 😁
It's been a long time, was nice to hear from you again , keep going
Thank you. I am working on a few vids which I’ll make public soon.
Just ordered one. Thanks & subscribed. Cheers
😁 enjoy 🙏🏻
Burn the book. It has encouraged mainly ( but not always ) young people with no hill experience and no idea of etiquette and respect to seek instant adventure. I had first started to use bothies before there was an MBA, and in those times would learn to sit quietly and listen. In later life I was an active MBA member for 10 years, both on and in charge of workparties. Bothy users don't see, not only the work, but the planning that goes into maintenance. When having a check, the first job was always to fill rubble sacks with EVERYTHING that did not belong, including food. What burnt went on the fire. Remember I was giving up my own time and money to do this as a hobby. I drove over 1000 miles a year to look after my own bothy and attend other workparties. To add insult, the book contains a photo of a bothy that was more than 5 years old when published.
My next gripe will be about the ‘tourist maps’ sold in the shops. They look like a map you might get in a zoo and I am continually finding people lost on the fells using these maps 😳
Great video! I love this mountain 😍 keep up the great work. I’ve subscribed 😊
😁 thank you for the kind words 🙏🏻
Amazing
It was an awesome morning 🙏🏻❤️
Nice one Ben, very interesting routes Im up there on the 22nd for a week next to Carrock
Look at the Wainwright loop route it gives a whole new perspective on walking the fells 😁 you can make your own loops up from it but it links so many of the fells together it is a great tool
@@Benjaminyates1984 will do, that sound a great idea, I've not seen a mountain since March 2020
hey good on you Ben for getting out in the face of apathy. We all battle that one. But what a day. Bet you got back from the couple of days buzzing. Mark
It is becoming more normal now to be honest. I have been out a lot since December and I have never felt happier in my self so there is only one thing for it........ keep hitting those hills 😁🙏🏻 I am just popping my inov8s on now to go up Causey Pike quickly 😁
@@Benjaminyates1984 Hey that's good to hear. You haver to fight them demons until they're vanquished. Aaah, yeah the boots. Thinking of going with Keen.
Wow, that was hard core. Fair play to both of you.. you for all the planning and some great leadership, and your man for smashing it out. How easy it would have been for him to give up when you were giving him the option. This is definitely on my list. 🏔👊
😁 thanks Nick. Yeah Mark is a strong fella. I felt ok doing it in that time but for someone who isn’t ever in the fells, it was impressive how deep Mark dug to get through. I would guide it over 6 days in future unless someone was looking for a hard challenge. What an amazing route though 😁
Fantastic adventure and challenge Ben. A full view all the way. It's raining and this has made for some good viewing at home. Mark totally wrapped that one up as you did. Both of you worked well together. Him smiling and trotting down to the car park said it all. Some good calls there. Mark
😂 yeah Mark sure made it fun at the top of each summit and was a pleasure to spend the time with 🙏🏻 thanks for watching 👍🏻 glad you enjoyed it. There will be more to come.
@@Benjaminyates1984 I could hear the fun in your narration ben. Good going - see you out there.
🙏🏻❤️
Really well put matey 👍👍
😁 thank you 🙏🏻
Decent load out Ben. I was digging the food - the trail mix interested me. You said syrup in there. Do you mean you actually poor syrup in the mix? Super sticky! Well, not the lightest but your gonna have a great time. Onto part 2. Mark
Yeah gooey nectar 😂 that defiantly needs refining because it got messy.
@@Benjaminyates1984 Ha ha, I thought it might. Take care.
Brilliant, great video.
Cheers Mike 😁
Good vid Ben, look forward to seeing how the week of work goes! 🏔👊
Thanks 😁 almost done editing it between guiding and playing out 😂 perfect weather for editing now though 💪
Honest review in terms of mileage and wear-ability. Cheers pal.
Thanks for the comment dude 🙏🏻 I’ll be reviewing the Roclite 275 this week as they are now dead 💀🤣 600+ miles though they took a kicking.
That looked quite a brutal start to the Pennine Way. The Peak District is in my neck of the woods so know how challenging Kinder and Bleaklow can be even in good weather. I’m going to check out all of the other Pennine Way vids on your channel as I’m hoping to walk it myself in September. Not as hardcore as you though as I don’t think I’ll camp. Maybe in the future if I succeed on my first attempt 👍
😁 thanks for watching dude. Yeah it was blumin wet and windy but Dexter got me through with a smile 🙏🏻 all the best on your hike 😁 it is a beautiful trail.
What a complete joke. No hill in England is more than 5 minutes away from a road or pub , thats why Scotland is infested with wannabe English mountaineers.
😂 I think 5 minutes is a bit far fetched but yeah the scale of things in the highlands is vast compared. I’d argue that we have some pretty bloody good mountaineers here in England too, we just adapt to what we have. The highlands are amazing and the experience gained there is second to none but the community in the Lake District is constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Thanks for your comment though it made me smile.
Great job brother! Way to push yourself, very inspiring 🥵💯💯💯
Thank you 👊🏻
